The Dunes
The Stockton Sand Dunes, located in the Worimi Conservation Lands near Newcastle in New South Wales, Australia, are a stunning natural wonder and one of the largest expanses of sand dunes in the Southern Hemisphere. Spanning approximately 32 kilometers, these dunes create a dramatic contrast against the lush coastal vegetation and the turquoise waters of the Pacific Ocean.
Shaped over millennia by wind and sea, the Stockton Sand Dunes boast ever-changing landscapes as the sands shift. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, including thrilling dune sledding, sandboarding, and scenic 4WD tours with sweeping views. The dunes are also a sanctuary for nature lovers, home to unique flora and fauna adapted to this sandy environment.
Beyond their natural allure, the Stockton Sand Dunes hold significant cultural value for the Worimi people, who have a profound connection to this land. This dual significance as a natural wonder and cultural landmark allows visitors to appreciate both its environmental beauty and cultural heritage.
Dirt Drive acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which we operate, and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
